Windshield Glass

Update:
The next step in developing the AMX/3 replica body panels is to locate a suitable windshield. After searching for the past several years, nothing has been found that is close enough. A slight change in shape would be acceptable, but not a radically different design. Keeping the windshield true to the original design is important to honor the design of the overall look. The frame around the windshield, roof, cowl and "A" pillars can be modified slightly, but not too much. Our friends in the Sweden AMC community, specifically Carl, called a glass company in Finland and got a quote on making our correct glass from scratch. Using the fiberglass frame, they could make a plug, a mold and ship ten windshield to us in San Diego for under $10,000. given current exchange rates. So now we need to find the $10,000, so we can get to this next important stage. Once we have a correct windshield, the replica fiberglass prototype body can be perfected for a new set of body molds.

PS AmeriMan on The AMC Forum suggested this company in California for glass. Thanks!

As many of you may already know from previous posts on the AMX/3 replicas, finding a windshield has held us back for the past several years. We did not want to spend ten thousand dollars to tool up for new windshields. The goal has been to find a windshield already in production and cut it down for our application. Well today our glass expert, Brian Plumer, found that the 1990-1998 Toyota Mr2 windshield will work. We still need to cut it down, but it looks good so far.
